Stabbing Incident in Dagenham Leaves Woman and Two Children Injured

A woman and two children have been stabbed in Dagenham, east London. The Metropolitan Police responded to reports of the incident on First Avenue at approximately 5:35 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a mother in her thirties along with her eight-year-old daughter and two-year-old son, all suffering from stab wounds. Police reported that they are awaiting updates on the conditions of the woman and the toddler, while confirming that the eight-year-old’s injuries are not life-threatening. Initially, authorities mistakenly identified both injured children as girls.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and was transported to the hospital after falling ill; he has since been released into police custody after assessment.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford, who oversees policing in Barking and Dagenham, described the incident as a “very awful act” and thanked local residents for their cooperation and patience during the investigation.

He indicated that early investigations suggest that the individuals involved were known to each other and confirmed that authorities are not seeking any additional suspects in connection with the incident. A crime scene will remain in place for some time as police conduct critical inquiries, and residents can expect an increased police presence in the area in the coming days.
